Project Guidelines
Rules & Guidelines
The original discussion thread on Etsy that paralleled the deceased Project Blog.
- Prints must be 6" by 6" square.
- Periodic number and symbol must be obvious in the print.
- Prints must be on paper.
- The print can be created from any type of printmaking - woodcut, linocut, monotype, etching, lithograph, serigraph, gocco.
- Prints can be all one color or as many as you like.
Borders vs. Full bleed
You can choose to add a border to the 6" square print or leave it full bleed.
What element do I get?
You can pick your element if it hasn't already been claimed, or we can assign you one based on what is left. You can choose to do more than one but the elements shouldn't be closer than 5 blocks on the table to keep styles farther apart.
What images can I use?
The image chosen for the element can be obvious or subtle in connection.
- Helium - balloon, imagine Helium's prints having balloons, and laughing children, or divers deep underwater.
- Gold - gold bar, imagine gold bearing rings, or printed circuits. Use your imagination.
- Mercury - could be a fish or thermometer
- Curium - Marie Curie portrait
- Astatine - unstable short lived, and radioactive, picture a madman frothing.
- Krypton - please do not use the Superman logo as that would be a copyright infringement.
- Sodium - a salt shaker would be fine, the Morton salt girl with umbrella is a logo.
You might represent your element by the person who discovered it, the building where it was discovered, use any connection you want. But we can't all do portraits of buildings or scientists. Keep it interesting, and odd. Each print should be accompanied by an explanation of the connections between the element and the image you chose. Please do not use already copyrighted images. These should be original works.
