About the Element Palladium was discovered in 1803 by William Hyde Wollaston, and was named after the asteroid Pallas that had been discovered the year before. The element is a silver-white metal that resembles platinum and has the amazing ability to absorb up to 900 times its own volume of hydrogen at room temperatures. Because of this, Palladium was a major component of the Fleischmann-Pons experiment, commonly known as cold-fusion.
